Man it feels good to be back home. It’s been about 16 years since I worked in the states (excluding conventions), and I was really curious about my first day at Dave’s shop (Hurts So Good in Portland, OR). I just have to say, I really like Dave. We have the same kind of sense of humor. I told him I was a 12 year old boy trapped in a 40 year old mommy body. His reply made me laugh. He said “me too.” For those of you who don’t know Dave, I would use anything aside from “40 year old mommy” to describe the way he looks. He’s a tall heavily tattooed man with impressive facial hair. Doesn’t exactly scream soccer mom, but then again neither do I. I’m also quite tall for an American woman and heavily tattooed, although I do my best to keep my facial hair in check.
My first day at the shop, I spent the first hour or so getting shown around in between jokes. Then my oldest friend Joan showed up for a touch up. I spent the afternoon setting up, touching up convention tattoos and laughing. It felt really good, a perfect way to start.
Day two was a Tom Robbins quote with some fun Bohemian/dotwork decoration which I love doing. Tom Robbins is one of my all time favorite authors, and I was so happy when my client was diggin the design I’d drawn up for her. Two great days in a row.
Today should’ve been day three, but I didn’t have any customers planned and it’s snowy af outside. So I stayed home and had a “work in my pyjamas” day. I spent the day doodling ideas for a collaboration with one of my favorite glass artists, Jennifer Umphress (check her out if you like glass art!) Another great day.
I’m excited to see what the rest of my trip has in store. I’ve still got openings, so if you’re interested in getting tattooed this month OR if you want to discuss future projects, please get in touch! I will be back again from May 7th until June 7th. It’s my goal to come out once a season for a month, but I’ll need enthusiastic clients to make my dream a reality 🙂
I’m a traveling tattoo lady who loves to keep her hands and mind busy.
